Summer Reading by Angela Moisey of Heartleaf Design

This post was written by Angela of Heartleaf Design

The longer days and nights of summer just cry out for time spent on a good book. I’ve been so busy with work, family, music and creating jewelry, I haven’t set aside the time for reading. Until today.

For my first book of the summer, I decided to go with something I’ll be able to finish fairly quickly. I started Catching Fire, the second book from the Hunger Games series, written by Suzanne Collins. It has been calling from my bookshelf for quite some time. I’d like to see the movie, but prefer to read the books first. So far, it is a quick read and I am enjoying it.

Another book on my reading list is Wherever You Are written by The Military Wives. From the book cover, “The Military Wives is a unique choir composed of the wives and girlfriends of military personnel deployed to Afghanistan.”

“From the moment we sang together our lives were changed forever.  In the choir we found solace and strength; we found each other. And that’s when the nation started to listen.”

My mother-in-law sent this book to me from Scotland. I am in a choir of women, the Assiniboine Show Chorus, and she thought I would appreciate their story. Curling up in a corner with this book, and likely a box of tissues, is an evening I’m looking forward to. This bold pillow by CrystalGaylePhoto would make it so much better.

A cheery, comfy choice for that special reading nook.

E-reader or paperback?
I don’t own an e-reader. I prefer to read real books. The feel of the paper and turning the pages, is so tactile and comforting. As is seeing how far I’ve read by where my book mark is positioned. Oh wait, something I can never seem to find is my bookmark. I did find some fabulous ones by BlacksSideShow and DeannaMay Design. If you are like me, you probably have more than one book on the go. Better buy a few.

I do try and read something recommended to me. My manager recommended the Magnificent Mind at Any Age by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. I had started it ages ago. (In fact, this is his book he gave me, shhh. I’ll finish it and get it back soon, really.)
.
From the book cover,“Whether you’re in the midst of a demanding career or are looking forward to an active and richly rewarding retirement, Magnificent Mind at Any Age can give you the edge you need to live every day to your fullest potential.”

I lose my sunglasses more often than I like to admit. I have no need for reading glasses yet, but these sunglass cases by StellarEvolutionD would be great for either. Maybe after reading the Magnificent Mind, I won’t be as forgetful.

Lounging outside with a good book often requires a beverage or two.  Here are some great finds for holding your brew. Beautiful Jade Green stoneware mugs by JenJohnsonStoneware look great and keep your coffee warm.

Tea seems to taste better from a real tea cup. Go on, spoil yourself! This summery rose one from Bixipix is a vintage ABJ Grafton china teacup. Just lovely!
