WESTie Wednesday - featuring Dawn M Teasdale Jewellery Design!

Welcome to WESTie Wednesday, where each week we get to know a proud WEST member and their Etsy shop! This week, we're learning about Dawn and her Etsy shop DawnMTeasdale!

I took my first jewellery making class about twenty years ago and I was immediately hooked - I really love the tradition behind the goldsmith’s art. I work primarily with traditional tools - hammers and anvil, file, saw - and of course fire - with a few modern tools thrown in for good measure. There really are almost limitless possibilities working with metal - it’s akin to alchemy to take a raw material and make a finished object you can hold in your hand out of it - it really fires up my imagination! I currently use a lot of texture and patinas to add detail to m work, and recently I’ve started working more with gemstones as one way of incorporating colour into my work - so expect to see a lot more of that in the Etsy shop very soon. As an extension of that, I'm studying to be come a gemologist. I’m also a lifelong beachcomber/collector of found objects, so I’m working on some ideas to incorporate some of my found treasures into my work. I have a small home studio where I do most of my work. I try very hard to source raw materials that contain recycled metals and/or materials that have been sustainably and ethically mined. I also use environmentally safe materials and techniques in my studio where ever possible to minimize environmental impacts."

"I sell hand made jewellery made out of sterling silver. My work is contemporary and classic - with a nod to what’s on trend - you could say it's understated, relaxed and easy to wear - I like to think that it is the kind of jewellery that you can wear everyday - so it’s more about investing in a piece of jewellery that you will want to wear for years to come. I think it appeals to women who are really comfortable in their own skin and who are very confident about their own style."
