WESTie Wednesday : ft The Craft & Cupboard

WESTie Wednesday with Katelyn of The Craft & Cupboard!

Welcome to WESTie Wednesday, where each week we get to know a proud WEST member and their Etsy shop! Learn about Katelyn and her shop The Craft & Cupboard.

"The Craft & Cupboard showcases rustic and vintage-inspired decor for weddings, special events and the home. I have always loved crafty and rustic things. When I was young my mom was an interior decorator and always inspired me to be creative.

When I was engaged and planning my rustic barn wedding, I began making a bunch of wedding decor items and I just loved it. After my wedding, I opened my shop to sell similar items that I had made and it has gone very well. I work with burlap, fabric, wood and anything rustic that inspires me."

"I love creating items for brides and mothers to be, or for a special person celebrating a big life event. I get to connect with mothers purchasing their daughter a wedding gift, a friend throwing a bridal shower, mothers celebrating a baby shower, a birthday party etc! It is really neat to think that my items will be present at a special celebration."

We asked Katelyn “Why Etsy?”
"I wanted to be able to share in that pre-wedding excitement again. I was so pumped--when I was making my wedding decor--for everyone to see it and share in that experience. When the wedding was over, I wanted to get that feeling back, and now I can by sharing my creations with people all over the world.

I was also tired of the 9-5 grind and have always known I am happiest when I am my own boss. I love the freedom and joy Etsy brings me; it is truly amazing."

WESTie Wednesday with Daisy Thirteen

Welcome to WESTie Wednesday, where each week we get to know a proud WEST member and their Etsy shop! Learn about Ang and her shop

"I’m Ang, a yoga-loving, meditating, free spirited Mama who loves music, and reading and is constantly learning. I love to travel, I’m fluent in Dutch, and in a former life I was a drafting technician."

"As for the origin of Daisy Thirteen, I have always loved the simple beauty of a Daisy. And Thirteen has been my lucky number for as long as I can remember. I love recycling or re-purposing something old into something new, or in the case of my wooden blocks, rescuing them from a trip to the landfill and infusing them with some TLC. My bead obsession began while traveling, and while in Australia I sold my hemp jewellery on the street and in markets. I love the whole process of taking a bunch of 'stuff', and transforming it into something beautiful and useful. The transformation is magical, and it is this creative process which I find myself surrendering to… time and time again. I love to create things that make me smile, and I hope that in doing so, I may make someone else smile."

"Currently I only have quote blocks listed in my Etsy shop, and they are the perfect gift for anyone! I have all kinds of quotes available, from guffaw-inducing to tear-jerking (and everything in between). Custom orders are always welcome, and I can also transfer photos or a handwritten note to a block. The fact that my blocks are free-standing means that you can just plunk them down anywhere. No need to put holes in your wall, or try to find a frame... just set it down and instantly transform your space."

We asked Ang “Why Etsy?”
"I love the freedom it provides. The freedom to stay home with our son, homeschool, earn some money, and be creative!"

Tutorial Tuesday: Geometric Wood Stain Decor

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday: Geometric Wood Stain Decor

This tutorial is by Amanda of Silver Moose Arts. Her love of geometric things extends from her jewelry throughout her home and this is one of her most recent projects.

Geometric Wood Stain Decor

All you need to create your own Geometric Wood Stain Decor is…

  • Wood Canvas
  • Painters Tape
  • Wood Stain
  • Foam Brush

     Instructions

    1. Use the Painters Tape to stick down your desired pattern on the wood canvas. Make sure you press the tape down well.

    2. Coat the stain over the wood canvas and tape. For varying shades of the stain you can dilute a little bit of the stain in a container with some water.

    3. Let the canvas dry for about 30 minutes before removing the tape. If you want the stain to be darker, before removing the tape, apply as many coats as desired - let each coat dry for 30 minutes before applying the next.

Very easy project with a cool effect.
