Last night I had the opportunity to attend the opening of the Manitoba Craft Council's Juried Exhibition - Slow Craft and cheer on a very talented WESTie! Kami Goertz, or as we know her,

Kami's piece "prairie soil profile in plush" was one of only 15 pieces selected! This is no small accomplishment - congratulations!! Over 50 pieces were submitted and Kami's plush work took a well deserved place in the show.

For most craft-based artists, slow is all in a day’s work. The processes associated with craft cannot be hurried, and the skills associated with craft take years to master. Most craft artists embrace the slowness of their craft, and many are using their work to question Western society’s addiction to speed, to shopping and consuming, to unsustainable environmental practices. Taking its cues from the broader Slow Movement, the SLOW CRAFT exhibition asks viewers to slow down, take a breath, and consider the implications of the work on display."
Congratulations Kami! I really enjoyed the opening on Thursday May 31 and encourage others to take it in. You are an inspiration to us all as you push the boundaries of plush work.
